GJCians Celebrate Annual ZEP Festival enthusiastically
ARTS Faculty Bags the Sports Trophy
SYBA Wins Maharaja Trophy for Best Event Management

The two day sports festival and the three day Annual Cultural Festival of GJC, known as Zep took place during 19th  to 24th December this year. The most awaited annual cultural programme for all the students had a huge variety of events this year with total 64 programmes.   
This year's theme was '100 years of Indian Cinema'.  The Festival began with a rally - Shobhayatra- in which more than 6 groups participated conceptualizing many interesting scenes regarding Indian Cinema.  After the rally, the festival had its formal inauguration in Khatu Natyamandir at 9 am on 22nd. Adv. Patane, Chairman, R.E.Society, Dr. Kishor Sukhatankar, Principal incharge, all the Vice Pricipals, Prof. Anand Ambekar, Coordinator of Cultural and Ms. Neha Shevade General Secretary of the Student Council inaugurated the festival. 
This year there were 64 events in all including mega events, stage events, fun events and exhibitions organized during the three days.  The mega events included Solo Singing, Duet Singing, Solo Dance, Duet Dance, Group Dance , Versatile Personality Contest and Chanderi Duniya. The stage events included Vidyarthi Sansad, Teachers' Antakshari, Vidyarthi Antakshari, CR Talent, Dandekar Manchinha Abhinay Spardha, Hasavanook, Poetry Recitation, Group Discussion, Friendship Forever and Quiz competition. The CR Talent, Teachers' Antakshari, Vidyarthi Sansad and Group Discussion were the newly introduced stage programmes this year.  Like every year, exhibitions of photography, rangoli, greeting-cards, Sand Art, Clay Modelling, cartooning, collage, installation, charcoal painting, and T-shirt Painting etc. were also arranged and in addition, Ocean Essence-Marine Biodiversity Exhibition, Nail Art, Production House, Commerce Journey and Magical Mathematics were the new attractions among the exhibitions.  Lan-Gaming, Chocolate King and Queen, Rose King and Queen, Funny Games, and newly introduced Fish-Point, Zep Messenger, Twins Day and Balpaniche Angan were the Fun Events fully enjoyed by students.
          As it is the unique feature of Zep that not only the participants but also the organizers of various events are felicitated at the end of the festival, this year too, the first three groups of organizers in each category (Mega events, stage events, Fun events and Exhibitions) were awarded for their potential of  event management. All the organizers were judged by the panel of nine judges. The Best Team scoring highest marks in all the categories were felicitated with the Maharaja Trophy for Management.  And this year, for the first time in the 10 year history of Maharaja Trophy, a teamof Arts Faculty i.e. SYBA secured the first rank proving itself the best event manager of the year.  The second rank was won by TYBSc while the third by BMS.  The moment was cheerfully celebrated by all the winners bringing about the perfect crescendo of the three day festival of joy and enthusiasm.
As goes the practice, the representatives of ‘ GJC-95’ – an alumni association of the college - were present for the prize destribution ceremony. Other dignitories like Mr. Bal Mane and Mr. Satish Shevade were also present for the programme.



GJCians Shine in 'Indradhanushya' With Flying Colours.
Pooja Desai declared as MU's Golden Girl

Six GJCians who participated representing University of Mumbai in the Inter University Youth Festival, Indradhanushya, won a lot of medals as well as many hearts with their outstanding performance. Manthan Khandake, Sagar Chavan, Sujit Mestri, Pradnya Chavande, Sneha Ayare and Pooja Desai, all the versatile artists of our cultural department got an opportunity to be a part of Mumbai University's cultural team to participate in Indradhanushya. All of them had earlier participated in inter-collegiate youth fest of MU held in August and September this year.  On the basis of their outstanding performance in the inter-collegiate round, they were further called for the selection round of Indradhanushya. Their versatility and brilliant performances got them entry in MU's team. Among them Manthan Khandake and Sujit Mestri achieved gold medals for their skit. Sagar Chavan played the lead role in Marathi Skit bagging one more gold medal for MU. Pradnya Chavande too acted in the same play and won gold for it.  Pradnya participated also in group song and folk dance along with Sneha Ayare. There too they didn't fail to bag gold medals. On the top of it, it was Pooja Desai who participated in Indian group song, Western group song, Western solo Mimicry and Skit, bagging 5 medals in various events. She got golds for Indian and Western group songs, silver for skit and bronze for western solo and mimicry. Her versatility and multi-talented personality won her the title of Golden Girl in Indradhanushya.
Coincidently or not ,Pooja had been the ‘Adarsh Vidyarthini ‘ as well as Golden Girl of the College , last year .

Dr. Shahu Madhale Recognized as Research Guide
Dr. Shahu Madhale, HoD, Hindi ,has been recognized as a guide for M.Phil and PhD by the University of Mumbai.  Dr. Madhale had applied for guideship at Mumbai Universiy. The University approved his application and awarded him the guideship on 12th November 2013. Dr. Madhale had completed his Ph.D. earlier in Shivaji University. His area of research is Novels and Short-stories. He has on his account three books with ISBN.  Six of his research papers have been published in ISSN Journals. He has completed a Minor Research Project on 'Samakalin Kahaniyonka Vaicharik Paripreksha' and is currently working on a Major Research Project on 'Adhunik Upanyaso Me Prakrutivad'. 
Dr.Madhale can now  guide in all 15 students pursuing their M.Phil or PhD. He has now applied for an open research centre in our college which will be the first research centre of Hindi in the whole Konkan region.  This will surely help students here to take up research in the field of Hindi language and literature.



Seven Research Projects of GJC Clear

The district level round of Avishkar Inter-University Research Convention, 2013 took place on Tuesday, 10th December.  Hundreds of Undergraduate students of Arts, Commerce and Science faculties from various colleges in Ratnagiri District participated in the convention, presenting their research in Powerpoint and Poster formats.
This convention is organized by the Chancellor of Maharashtra every year, with the objective of inspiring students to take up research as their area of interest.  More than 30 GJCians participated in the convention, making an endeavour in the area of Research.  Seven research projects of these GJCians got qualified for the next round that is to take place in University of Mumbai in the month of January.  Out of these seven projects, two were from the Arts, two from the Commerce and three from the Science faculty.  Principal, Dr. Subhash Deo have congratulated the all the young researchers for their participation in and contribution to research activity.  All the entrants were guided time to time by Prof. Rajeev Sapre, Vice Principal of Science, Dr. Surendra Thakurdesai, HoD, Geogrophy, Dr. Bhattar, Dept of Chemistry, Prof. D.S.Kamble, Dept of English and Prof. Rupesh Sawnat, Dept of Commerce.



Harshad and Kanchan Win Swami Swarupanand
State Level Inter-Collegiate Elocution Competition

Harshad Tulpule (FYBA) and Kanchan Ambre (MA) bagged the team trophy of Swami Swarupanand State Level Inter-Collegiate Elocution Competition held on 15th December. This highly esteemed competition is organized every year on 15th December, collaboratively by Gogate Jogalekar College and Swami Swarupanand Seva Mandal, Pawas, on the occasion of Swami Swarupanand's Birth Anniversary. Many students from all over Maharashtra participate in the competition. 
This year too, the organizers received a good response as 32 students from various colleges in the state participated in the competition. Mr. Satish Kamat, a well-known journalist and Prof. Dattatray Walawalkar of Abhyankar Kulkarni Junior College were the judges for the competition. The first rank was won by Ms. Mughdha Joshi from Nashik, while Harshad Tulpule and Kanchan Ambre of GJC won the second and third ranks respectively. Harshad and Kanchan's individual victory also won for our college the team trophy of the Competition. Hearty Congrats to both of them..!!
