The GJCians Volume II, Issue III

GJCians interact with Ramdas Phutane,
the well-known Marathi Poet and Film Maker
The students of our college had the opportunity of an open informal interaction with the well-known Marathi poet Shri Ramdas Phutane on 17th January 2014.  The Literary Association of the college had organized the talk in the Radhabai Shetye Auditorium. The writer well known for his socio-political satires 'Vatratika' and 'Phodani', talked to the students very informally. In his speech he emphasized the importance of reading and urged the students to read the biographies and autobiographies of great people. He said, " In today's world of Television and Internet lot of things can distract young minds from the proper track, but youth can shape up their lives only by reading books that inculcate morals and values." He advised the students to be motivated towards their aims and goals in life and to never get frustrated because of the failure they may face in life.  "We have to experience failures sometimes and should take them quite positively.  We cannot always learn things from the failures of others but our own experience, our own failures teach us important lessons", said Mr. Phutane. The guidance given by  Mr. Phutane, unlike the preachy guidance of most of the speakers, was in such a friendly language and style along with the recitation of his appropriate satires, that it was welcome and fully enjoyed by all the students. Mr. Phutane's amiable, good-humoured nature comforted the students to ask him their questions very frankly. Mr. Phutane too answered all their questions satisfactorily.  This interactive programme took place for more than two hours and was attended and enjoyed by Prin. Dr. Subhash Deo, Prof. Shraddha Rane, Convener, Literary Association and many other teachers and students of the college.
